About the Caesar
The Caesar is a savory cocktail served over ice in a large glass. Its base is vodka mixed with tomato juice, clam juice, and seasonings. The combination of tomato and clam flavors gives the drink a rich, spicy character.
History
The Caesar was created in 1969 by Walter Chell at the Calgary Inn in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He devised the drink as a signature cocktail for the restaurant's new Italian menu. Chell mixed vodka with clam and tomato juice, Worcestershire sauce, and spices. He named the drink the Caesar after a patron who praised it as a 'bloody Caesar'. The cocktail quickly became popular in Calgary and spread throughout Western Canada.
