Mukuzani is a dry red wine from Georgia made from the Saperavi grape. It has an alcohol content of 12.5% and is considered one of the signature wines of Georgian winemaking.
How it is made
Mukuzani is produced from the Saperavi grape in the village of Mukuzani in the Gurjaani municipality. The wine is traditionally aged in oak barrels for at least three years, which gives it a deep red color and soft oak and berry flavors. However, Georgian law does not specify minimum aging requirements for this wine.
History
Mukuzani has been produced since 1888 and was designated as number 4 in the Soviet Union. In 2014, the boundaries of the wine's viticultural area were expanded. After the collapse of the USSR, Mukuzani gained recognition for being closer to modern preferences for quality dry wines.
How it is served
Mukuzani pairs well with meat. The wine has a complex flavor profile with oak and berry aromatics that develop over time.
