Single malt whisky

A malt whisky.

Single malt whisky is a premium spirit produced exclusively at one distillery. It is made from water, malted barley and yeast, typically aged for at least five years in oak barrels.

How it is made

Single malt whisky is produced using water, malted barley and yeast. The barley undergoes malting, where it is soaked in water to stimulate germination, then heated to stop the process. This makes the grain more receptive to fermentation. After fermentation, the liquid is distilled in copper stills and then aged in oak barrels.

How it is served

Single malt whisky is typically served neat, often given time to breathe in a glass to reduce alcohol intensity. It can be served with whiskey stones for cooling or with a small amount of ice or water to enhance its aroma and flavor profile. It can also be used as a component in premium cocktails.
