About the Highball

The Highball is a long, fizzy cocktail built with Highland single malt whisky as its base. This variation combines sweet strawberry syrup and rhubarb liqueur with soda water to create a lightly alcoholic, fruity drink with a sweet profile.

History

The highball originated in Great Britain in the 1830s as an adaptation of the Austrian spritzer. It became popular worldwide by the mid-20th century, particularly in Japan where it became synonymous with whisky and soda. The drink format consists of one or two parts liquor mixed with carbonated mixer over ice.
