About the Mulled Wine

Mulled wine is a hot, spiced alcoholic beverage made with red wine as its base, enhanced with warming spices and a touch of brandy. The combination of cinnamon, cloves, and citrus creates a comforting, aromatic drink that is traditionally served during winter holidays.

History

Mulled wine has ancient origins, with the first record of spiced and heated wine dating back to 2nd century BC in Plautus' play Curculio. The Romans brought wine and spicing techniques across Europe, and the tradition evolved through medieval times with various spice combinations. Today, it remains a popular winter drink in many countries, with regional variations including Germany's Glühwein and Nordic countries' Glögg.
