Corona is a light lager beer produced by the Mexican company Grupo Modelo. It has an alcohol by volume of 4.5% and is served with a lime or lemon wedge in the neck outside Mexico.
How it is made
Corona Extra contains barley, rice and/or corn, hops, yeast, an antioxidant (ascorbic acid), and propylene glycol alginate as a stabilizer. It is packaged in bottles of various sizes, from 190 ml to 710 ml, and has also been available in cans since 2012.
How it is served
Outside Mexico, Corona is traditionally served with a lime or lemon wedge in the neck of the bottle. This practice is believed to add tartness and aroma. The tradition began in 1981 when a bartender placed a lime wedge in the bottle neck as a bet to see if regular customers would do the same.
Cocktails
Corona is used in cocktails such as Buccaneer and Limona Corona. Some bars also serve a layered cocktail called Coronarita or Bulldog Margarita, which is a Margarita with a Corona bottle inserted upside down, allowing the beer to gradually mix with the cocktail.
