Goldwasser is a herbal liqueur made with 22-karat gold flakes. It originates from Gdansk and has an anise and caraway flavor.
History
Goldwasser was invented in 1598 by Ambrosius Vermölle, a Dutchman living in Gdansk. It was based on the Dutch liqueur kümmel.
How it is made
Goldwasser is a colorless liqueur infused with herbs. It contains large particles of 22-karat gold that swirl when poured.
How it is served
Goldwasser is served in liqueur glasses. It is not recommended to mix it as this reduces the effect of the gold flakes.
Cocktails
Goldwasser is used in the Boston Apothecary #500 cocktail.
