Kriek lambic is a Belgian beer style made by fermenting lambic with sour cherries, traditionally using the Schaarbeek cherry variety from near Brussels. It has an alcohol content of 5% to 6%.

How it is made

For every 100 liters of beer, approximately 13 kilograms of cherries are used, which are pitted and macerated in the lambic. The beer, contained in oak barrels, undergoes a secondary fermentation due to the fruit sugars in the berries. The Schaarbeek cherry variety is considered most suitable for making kriek.

How it is served

Kriek should be served chilled at 5-6°C. It is typically poured into small glass bottles. The sweet and sour taste is particularly pleasant in summer months. In winter, kriek is sometimes served warm with spices at Belgian Christmas markets, similar to punch.
