Provence wine comes from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France. The region produces red, white, and rosé wines with an alcohol by volume of 12% to 13%.
History
Greeks founded the city of Marseille in 600 BCE, introducing viticulture to the area. Romans, Gauls, Catalans, and Savoys later influenced the region's wine production.
Types and styles
The region is known for rosé wines, which make up more than half of the production. Red wines account for about one-third of the output, while white wines are produced in smaller volumes.
