About the Bloody Mary

The Bloody Mary is a highball cocktail featuring vodka as its base, mixed with tomato juice and various seasonings. This drink has a savory, spicy character from ingredients like lemon juice, Tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and celery salt, balanced by the fresh taste of celery.

History

The Bloody Mary was created in the 1920s or 1930s, with various claims about its origin. French bartender Fernand Petiot is credited with inventing the modern version at Harry's New York Bar in Paris, where it was initially called a "Bucket of Blood." The cocktail evolved from a simple mix of vodka and tomato juice to include the various seasonings found in recipes today.
