About the Michelada

The Michelada is a Mexican beer-based cocktail characterized by its savory, tangy flavor profile. It combines beer with tomato juice, lime juice, and various sauces including Worcestershire, soy, and hot sauce, creating a refreshing and complex beverage.

History

The Michelada originated in Mexico with two popular origin stories. One attributes it to Michel Ésper at Club Deportivo Potosino in the 1960s, who requested his beer with lime, salt, ice, and a straw. Another suggests the name comes from 'mi chela helada,' meaning 'my ice-cold beer' in Mexican slang.
