Amarone della Valpolicella is a dry red wine from Italy made from Corvina grapes. It has an alcohol content of 16 degrees.

How it is made

The wine is produced using the appassimento method, where grapes are dried on pallets for weeks or months. This process concentrates the sugar and flavor in the berries. The wine is then aged in wooden barrels for at least two years.

History

Amarone is a dry version of Recioto. The first wine with this name was released in 1953 by the Bolla winery. The appellation received DOCG status in 2009.
