Polish beer is a traditional beverage made from malted barley and hops. It comes from Poland and typically has an alcohol content of 5-6%.
History
The tradition of Polish beer brewing is one of the oldest in the world, with roots dating back to prehistoric times. The first written mention of Polish beer can be found in the chronicles of Thietmar of Merseburg, who noted that the first Polish king, Bolesław I the Brave, was called 'Beer Lover' due to his fondness for the beverage.
Market
As of the end of 2013, Poland had 97 breweries. The beer market is dominated by three international companies that control 85% of the market. However, beer from smaller regional breweries is gaining popularity among consumers.
