Everclear is a brand of rectified spirits produced by Luxco in the United States. It is made from ethanol and comes in several strengths, with the highest being 95% alcohol by volume.
How it is made
Everclear is produced through rectification of ethanol derived from grain. It is available in various alcohol concentrations: 60%, 75.5%, 94.5%, and 95% alcohol by volume, making it one of the strongest alcoholic beverages available.
History
Everclear has been produced since the 1920s, with the trademark being registered in 1950. The manufacturer acknowledges that due to its high alcohol content, the drink has gained a reputation for being dangerous when consumed undiluted.
How it is served
According to the manufacturer, Everclear should not be consumed in its pure form. Instead, it should be diluted with water or other ingredients to reduce the alcohol content to levels similar to other spirits or liqueurs. It is used in cocktails such as Brain Fart, Danbooka, and Pink Penocha.
Types and styles
Everclear is available in four different strengths: 60%, 75.5%, 94.5%, and 95% alcohol by volume. Due to its extremely high alcohol content, it is banned in 15 U.S. states including California, Florida, New York, and Pennsylvania.
