About the Airmail

The Airmail is a refreshing sour cocktail with a rum base, brightened by lime juice and sweetened with honey syrup, finished with champagne for effervescence. It balances the rich notes of rum with the tartness of lime and the smooth sweetness of honey, creating a sophisticated drink with historical roots in the prohibition era.

History

The Airmail likely originated during or after American prohibition in the 1920s or 1930s, possibly in Cuba. Its name reflects the era's fascination with aviation, as airmail was the fastest international communication method at the time. The cocktail first appeared in a Bacardí advertising brochure and was published in 1941 in W.C. Whitfield's 'Here's How,' with the comment 'It ought to make you fly high.'
