About the Margarita

The Margarita is a sour cocktail that combines tequila, triple sec, and lime juice to create a refreshing yet potent drink. Its signature salt rim balances the citrus tang, making it a balanced and flavorful experience that has become one of the most popular tequila-based cocktails worldwide.

History

The origin of the Margarita is uncertain with multiple competing stories. Some accounts trace it back to the 1930s or 1940s in Mexico, with various bars and bartenders claiming to have created it. The name 'margarita' is Spanish for 'daisy,' suggesting a connection to the brandy daisy family of cocktails. The first known publication of a margarita recipe appeared in the December 1953 issue of Esquire magazine.
