About the Moscow Mule

The Moscow Mule is a sour cocktail that combines vodka with the spicy kick of ginger beer and the tartness of lime juice. This refreshing drink is characterized by its fizzy texture and balanced flavors, with blackberry and mint adding subtle complexity to the classic combination.

History

The Moscow Mule was created in 1941 at the Chatham Hotel in New York City. The cocktail was born when three friends—John A. Morgan (owner of Cock 'n' Bull Products), John G. Martin (president of G.F. Heublein Brothers), and Rudolph Kunett (president of Pierre Smirnoff)—combined vodka, ginger beer, and lime. The drink gained popularity, especially in Los Angeles, and became associated with copper mugs through marketing efforts by Martin to promote Smirnoff vodka.
