About the Screwdriver

The Screwdriver is a highball cocktail with vodka as its base, combined with orange juice for a sweet citrus flavor. This straightforward drink creates a refreshing, lightly alcoholic beverage with a predominantly fruity character.

History

The Screwdriver originated during World War II when Americans in China and Turkey mixed vodka with orange juice. The name appeared in Turkey in 1943-1944, though its exact origin is unclear. Popular stories suggest using a screwdriver as a stirring tool or auto workers adding vodka to morning juice. The drink gained popularity in America during the 1950s and 1960s alongside vodka's rise.
