About the Espresso Martini

The Espresso Martini is a modern sour-style cocktail with a vodka base. It combines the rich bitterness of coffee with the sweetness of coffee liqueur and vanilla, creating a smooth, caffeinated kick.

History

Created by Dick Bradsell in the 1980s in London, reportedly at the Soho Brasserie circa 1983. The drink emerged during a period when vodka was particularly popular and was designed to combine the stimulating effects of caffeine with alcohol.
