About the Hurricane

The Hurricane is a sweet, sour-style cocktail with rum as its base. It features tropical flavors from passion fruit, pineapple, and orange juices, balanced by lime and lemon for a refreshing citrus character.

History

The Hurricane cocktail dates back to at least 1935 and was originally made with whiskey, gin, and crème de menthe. It later evolved to feature rum and became associated with New Orleans, particularly Pat O'Brien's bar, which created a passion fruit-flavored version in the 1940s to use up less popular rum stocks.
