About the Doctor Cocktail

The Doctor is a classic sour cocktail with a rum and Swedish punsch base, balanced by citrus juices. It has a complex sweet-tart character with tropical notes from the punsch. The cocktail dates back to at least 1917 and has seen various interpretations over time.

History

The Doctor cocktail originated in the pre-prohibition era, first appearing in Hugo R. Ensslin's 'Recipes for Mixed Drinks' in 1917 with just Swedish punsch and lime juice. Over time, variations emerged, with different ratios and additional ingredients like rum, while maintaining the core combination of Swedish punsch and citrus juices.
