About the Rum Swizzle

The Rum Swizzle is a highball-style cocktail with a frothy texture from vigorous shaking with crushed ice. It combines black and gold rum with citrus juices, pineapple juice, falernum, and bitters to create a sweet, tangy, and aromatic drink that has become Bermuda's national beverage.

History

Icy drink mixtures called swizzles have been mentioned since the mid-18th century in various locations including Saint Kitts, Barbados, and Great Britain. The rum swizzle is often associated with Bermuda, particularly The Swizzle Inn which claims to have sold its first Rum Swizzle in 1932. The drink was reportedly served at what was purported to be the world's first cocktail party in London in 1924.
