About the Flaming Volcano

The Flaming Volcano is a large tropical group cocktail with rum and brandy base, featuring citrus juices and orgeat syrup. It is known for its dramatic presentation with a flame erupting from the center, creating a communal drinking experience with a volcanic ambiance.

History

The communal flaming volcano drink originated in Hawaii in the 1950s or 1960s, combining flammable single-person volcano cocktails with larger communal bowl cocktails. It became popular in tiki bars, with variations like the Lei Lani Volcano appearing at Disney World's Polynesian Village Resort in the 1970s. Some sources suggest a connection to Chile during Pinochet's era, but credible evidence for this claim is lacking.
