About the Macuá

The Macuá is a sour-style cocktail featuring white rum as its base. The combination of guava juice and lemon juice gives it a sweet and tart character with tropical notes. This drink is recognized as Nicaragua's national beverage.

History

The Macuá was created by Dr. Edmundo Miranda Saenz, a pediatrician from Granada, Nicaragua. It was developed through a collaborative effort with his family to create a national drink. In October 2006, it won a competition sponsored by Flor de Caña to become Nicaragua's official national beverage, chosen over other local ingredient combinations.
