About the Malecon
The Malecon is a sweet short drink that combines white rum with port wine, sherry, and Peychaud's bitters. The ingredients create a balanced profile with sweetness from the port and sugar, complemented by the tartness of lime juice and the complexity of the bitters.
History
The Malecon is named after the famous seaside avenue in Havana, Cuba. There are multiple versions of this cocktail, with the earliest from Cuba before prohibition, an American version from 1941, and a modern version created in 2007 by Erik Lorincz at the Connaught Bar in London, which inspired the current recipe.
