About the Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan is a sour cocktail made with citrus vodka as its base. It has a tart, fruity character from the cranberry juice and lime juice, balanced by the sweetness of triple sec.

History

The origin of the Cosmopolitan is disputed, with various claims tracing it back to different locations and time periods. Some histories suggest it emerged from the gay community in 1970s Provincetown, Massachusetts, while others credit its creation to bartenders in Minneapolis (1975), South Beach, Florida (1985), or New York City (1989). The drink gained significant popularity in the 1990s, partly due to its mention on the television show 'Sex and the City' and being spotted in the hands of celebrities like Madonna.
