Slovenian wine

A wine.

Slovenian wine is an alcoholic beverage made from grapes grown in Slovenia. It has been actively produced since the 12th century and typically has an alcohol content typical of wine.

How it is made

Slovenian wine is produced in three main regions: Podravje, Posavje, and Primorje, each with distinct microclimates and soil compositions. The production follows strict quality control, with the use of imported wine materials prohibited.

Types and styles

Slovenian wines include both white and red varieties. White wines are made from Riesling, Laški Riesling, Traminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Furmint, and Šipon grapes. Red wines feature Merlot, Frankovka, and the indigenous Kraski Teran. The wines are classified as Vrhunsko vino (high-quality), Kakovostno vino ZKGP (controlled geographical origin), and Namizno vino (table wine).

How it is served

Slovenian wines are served in various styles from dry to sweet, indicated by labels such as zelo suho (brut for sparkling), suho (dry), polsuho (semi-dry), polsladko (semi-sweet), and sladko (sweet).
