About the Bronx

The Bronx is a sour cocktail with gin as its base, characterized by its citrusy flavor from orange juice and the botanical notes of gin and vermouth. It was ranked as the third most famous cocktail in 1934 and has been featured in classic films like 'The Thin Man'.

History

The Bronx has multiple origin stories. One credits Joseph S. Sormani, a Bronx restaurateur, who discovered it in Philadelphia in 1905. Another attributes its creation to Johnnie Solan, a pre-Prohibition bartender at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, who claimed to have invented it around 1899-1906. The cocktail was ranked third among the world's most famous cocktails in 1934.
