About the Mai Tai

The Mai Tai is a sour-style cocktail that combines aged rum with citrus and sweet notes. Its ingredients create a balanced tropical flavor profile with a distinctive almond finish from the orgeat syrup.

History

The Mai Tai originated in Tiki culture and became popular in the 1950s and 1960s. It was claimed to have been invented by Victor J. Bergeron in 1944 at Trader Vic's restaurant in Oakland, California, though others attribute its creation to Donn Beach in 1933.
