About the French 75

The French 75 is a sophisticated sour cocktail that combines gin with sparkling wine for a bubbly, citrus-forward experience. Its balanced sweetness from sugar syrup and bright lemon juice creates a refreshing yet potent drink, traditionally served in a flute glass.

History

The French 75 originated in the early 20th century and was named after the French Canon de 75 field gun. It evolved from earlier champagne-based cocktails and gained popularity through publications like The Savoy Cocktail Book in 1930. The drink became a staple in American bars and has appeared in various films and cultural references over the decades.
