About the Aperol Spritz

The Aperol Spritz is a light, effervescent aperitif cocktail with a low alcohol content. It combines the bitter-sweet notes of Aperol with the crispness of Prosecco, balanced by a hint of soda water and the citrus aroma of orange.

History

The spritz originated in the 1800s during Habsburg domination in Veneto, when soldiers requested water be added to local wine to reduce its alcohol content. The modern Aperol Spritz became popular in the 1970s when Prosecco replaced still wine in the recipe. Aperol, created in Padua in 1919, became the preferred bitter liqueur for this refreshing aperitif.
