About the Spritz

The Spritz is a light, bubbly aperitif cocktail with a characteristic bittersweet flavor. It combines the crispness of Prosecco with the herbal bitterness of Campari, balanced by a splash of soda water for a refreshing finish.

History

The Spritz originated in Venice in the 1920s as the 'spritz veneziano' using Select as the bitter component. It evolved from a practice of dilating wine with water during the Habsburg domination in Veneto. The modern recipe with Prosecco was established in the 1970s and has become an IBA official cocktail since 2011.
