About the Gimlet

The gimlet is a sour cocktail made with London dry gin and lime cordial. It has a dry and citrus flavor profile.

History

The drink is named after a tool for drilling small holes, implying its sharp taste. Another theory links the name to Royal Navy surgeon Thomas Gimlette, who supposedly mixed gin with lime juice to encourage sailors to take the medication.
