About the Gin Fizz

The Gin Fizz is a sour cocktail from the fizzes family. It mixes gin with lemon juice and powdered sugar to create a drink with tart sweetness from the citrus and sugar. Carbonated water is added, giving it a signature fizz that makes the drink refreshing.

History

In America, fizzes became popular between 1900 and 1940. The gin fizz was especially known as a specialty of New Orleans, with bars employing teams of bartenders who would rotate shaking the drinks. By 1950, fizzes had gained international demand, shown by their inclusion in the French cookbook L'Art Culinaire Francais published that year.
