About the Mojito

The Mojito is a classic highball cocktail with a rum base. It combines sweet, citrus, and herbaceous mint flavors to create a refreshing drink that complements the rum.

History

The Mojito originated in Havana, Cuba, though its exact origin is debated. It was created with aguardiente de caña (a crude form of rum) mixed with lime, sugarcane juice, and mint. These ingredients helped prevent scurvy and dysentery while masking the harsh taste of the spirit. The cocktail has been associated with Ernest Hemingway, who was a regular at La Bodeguita del Medio in Havana.
