About the Piña Colada

The Piña Colada is a tropical sour cocktail with rum as its base. It combines the creamy sweetness of coconut with the bright acidity of lime and the tropical fruitiness of pineapple to create a refreshing and indulgent drink. This classic Caribbean beverage is perfect for those seeking a sweet yet balanced tropical experience.

History

The Piña Colada originated in Puerto Rico and became the territory's official drink in 1978. The name translates to 'strained pineapple' in Spanish, referring to the freshly pressed pineapple juice used in its preparation. While several claims exist about its invention, the Caribe Hilton Hotel credits bartender Ramón 'Monchito' Marrero with creating the modern version in 1954.
