About the Boulevardier
The Boulevardier is a potent, stirred short drink combining bourbon whiskey, red vermouth, and red bitter. It features a complex taste with herbal and bitter notes complemented by vermouth's sweetness and bourbon's warmth.
History
First recorded in the cocktail book 'Barflies and Cocktails' (1927), the Boulevardier was created by Erskine Gwynne in Paris during the late 1920s. The cocktail remained obscure for eight decades before its revival during the craft cocktail movement's emergence in the late 2000s. By the 2010s, it had gained recognition as a Negroni variation and was officially recognized as an IBA cocktail in 2020.
