About the Rusty Nail

The Rusty Nail is a short, sour cocktail combining Scotch whisky with Drambuie liqueur. The drink has a strong, sweet character with spicy notes from the Drambuie.

History

The cocktail's origin dates back to the 1937 British Industries Fair. It gained popularity in the 1950s after endorsement by New York's 21 Club and became associated with the Rat Pack in the 1960s. The name was cemented in 1963 when the chairwoman of the Drambuie Liqueur Company endorsed it in The New York Times.
